Privoxy merupakan web proxy non-caching dengan kemampuan penyaringan tingkat lanjut untuk meningkatkan privasi, memodifikasi data halaman web dan header HTTP, mengontrol akses, serta menghapus iklan dan sampah Internet yang mengganggu lainnya. Ketika pengguna mengakses Internet, browser web mengirimkan permintaan ke Privoxy untuk mendapatkan objek atau halaman, kemudian Privoxy menyaring permintaan pengguna per konfigurasi proxy dan memberikan hasilnya kepada pengguna akhir. Secara umum, server Privoxy digunakan untuk privasi dan keamanan serta untuk meningkatkan efisiensi melalui fitur caching tingkat lanjutnya.

Materi yang akan dibahas mengulas tentang penggabungan 2 program sekaligus, yaitu Tor dan Privoxy. Tor akan menjadi Backend sementara Privoxy akan menjadi Frontend. Jadi setiap kali pengguna mengakses/meminta browser web, maka akan dilayani oleh Privoxy sebagai Frontend, sehingga data dan identitas Anda dapat disembunyikan oleh Privoxy, karena ada Tor di Backend.
Setelah itu kita lakukan restart aplikasi privoxy dengan perintah service.
Setelah itu, tutup Google Chrome lalu buka lagi. Kita uji dengan membuka YouTube atau Facebook. Jika YouTube dan Facebook terbuka, berarti konfigurasi Anda sudah benar. Anda juga bisa melakukan uji dengan https://check.torproject.org/. Jika konfigurasi Anda sudah benar dan tidak ada yang salah, akan muncul pesan seperti di bawah ini di peramban web Google Chrome.
Di bawah ini adalah script lengkap dari file "/usr/local/etc/privoxy.".

Cara Kerja Privoxy
Privoxy bertindak sebagai perantara antara peramban web pengguna dan internet. Saat pengguna mengirimkan permintaan untuk mengakses halaman web, permintaan tersebut terlebih dahulu dikirim ke Privoxy. Privoxy kemudian memproses permintaan tersebut sesuai dengan konfigurasinya dan aturan yang ditetapkan pengguna sebelum meneruskannya ke server web yang dituju. Respons dari server web juga melewati Privoxy, tempat respons tersebut dapat dimodifikasi sebelum dikirim kembali ke peramban pengguna.
Teknologi di balik Privoxy didasarkan pada serangkaian aturan dan filter yang ditetapkan pengguna. Aturan ini dapat digunakan untuk memblokir jenis konten tertentu, seperti iklan atau skrip pelacakan, mengubah tajuk, atau mengalihkan permintaan. Proses Instalasi
Untuk memulai instalasi Privoxy, kami sarankan untuk menggunakan sistem Port FreeBSD.

Langkah paling penting dalam tutorial ini adalah mengkonfigurasi file konfigurasi Privoxy yang ada di folder /usr/local/etc/privoxy.

Jika anda menggunakan Windows, untuk mempermudah pengeditan file /usr/local/etc/privoxy/config, sebaiknya gunakan aplikasi WINSCP.
Pada file /usr/local/etc/privoxy/config, hapus tanda "#" pada skrip. Berikut ini adalah contoh skrip yang harus Anda aktifkan pada berkas /usr/local/etc/privoxy/config.

Coba anda perhatikan script listen-address, 192.168.5.2:8008, IP tersebut merupakan IP dan Port Privoxy. Sementara itu, IP dan Port 192.168.5.2:9050 pada script forward-socks5 merupakan milik TOR. Jadi sudah dijelaskan, Tor dibuat BACKEND oleh Privoxy. (Script config file lengkapnya bisa Anda lihat di akhir artikel).
Langkah selanjutnya adalah RESTART lagi aplikasi Privoxy.

Test Privoxy
Untuk melakukan pengujian, anda dapat menggunakan web browser apa saja seperti Yandex, Firefox, Chrome, atau web browser lainnya. Jika kami menguji dengan Google Chrome, di Google Chrome klik menu pengaturan, agar lebih jelasnya anda perhatikan gambar di bawah ini.
